Percy2
The Percy DeWolfe Memorial Mail Race began back in 1977 as a way to honour the legendary Percy DeWolfe, who courageously carried mail by dog team, horse and boat between Dawson City, YT and Eagle, AK, from 1910 and 1949. We would like to acknowledge that this event takes place on the traditional territory of Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation. We are grateful for their stewardship of this land and for their support in allowing us to host our event here and for the use of facilities at their historic site of Ch’ëdähdëk (Forty Mile). Thank you for helping us honor the cultural heritage and history of this area.

Jody drew Bib #2, making her this year’s official mail carrier!

Jody Mail Carrier

This year, the Percy DeWolfe Memorial Mail Race is a 150-mile (241 km) dog sled race following the historic Yukon River mail route traveled by the legendary mail carrier Percy DeWolfe. The route heads to Fortymile, completes a loop, and returns to Dawson City.

The race attracts world class mushers from other well known races such as the Yukon Quest and Iditarod, and is a qualifying race for both.

Kobuk 440 Logo

The Kobuk 440 Racing Association is a Kotzebue-based non-profit run by volunteers all across the Northwest Arctic region. The association hosts the Kobuk 440 mid-distance sled dog race annually. For the Iñupiat, dog mushing has always been a part of life and a part of the region’s history. Mid-distance races provide an opportunity for dog mushers to garner experience that can lead them to longer races like the Iditarod. During the race, checkpoint communities come together to celebrate the Iñupiaq way of life, respect for nature, community wellness, and heritage. For more information click the Kobuk 440 logo.
